Perinton, N.Y. — The 5th Annual Kyle’s SlapShot Challenge Tournament & Festival is taking place this weekend, benefiting Golisano Children’s Hospital.

The event, founded by Kyle O’Donnell during his own cancer treatment at the hospital, will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Rochester Ice Center.

The tournament, exclusively for Jr. Amerks players, marks the official kickoff to the 2025-26 season.

Proceeds from the event will support Kyle’s Slap Shot Challenge Foundation, aiding the Pediatric Oncology Department at Golisano Children’s Hospital, and will feature live music, carnival games, a variety of food trucks, and an auction.

The event aims to make hospital stays easier for children and their families, with all proceeds benefiting Golisano Children’s Hospital.

“When I was in the hospital, I had nothing to do,” said Kyle O’Donnell, founder of Kyle’s SlapShot Challenge Tournament & Festival. “I was pretty much in my room constantly and not able to leave, so the only thing I wanted to do was be able to be active again while at the hospital and have stuff to do instead of taking walks around. So, I had the idea to start this up and find ways to get more active stuff in the hospital for kids and patience and improve their life.”

The event is open to the public. Click here for more information.
