Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews continued a yearly tradition, skating alongside former Arizona Coyote and current Utah Mammoth star Clayton Keller during summer.

While the NHL offseason is still underway, it’s not just the executives getting prepared for the regular season, as players are starting to wind down their vacation and R&R time in order to focus on the season ahead.

As is tradition with the Arizona native, he ended up skating alongside former Arizona Coyote and current Utah Mammoth star Clayton Keller, as the two were looking to get ready to make an impact.

Auston Matthews and Clayton Keller: No Shortage of Brotherly Love

It’s obviously not the first time the two have skated together, as they often do in the summer, but Matthews clearly has a soft spot for Keller, selecting him as part of his All-Star Team in 2024.

I spend a lot of time with him in the summers and we like to hang out. We’ll skate and train together.

In the summer skates, we always try to play together and have pretty good chemistry, so I really wanted him to be on the team. He’s really slippery, he’s extremely skilled, he shoots it really well, but he’s also an elite playmaker and he is having a great season.

Keller, 27, is undoubtedly a star for the young Mammoth squad, and has put up some pretty staggering numbers considering he’s never really mentioned a lot of the time compared to other names.

In 81 games last season he posted 90 points (30 goals, 60 assists) and has 272 points over the last three seasons.

No doubt the two are going to be working together not only this summer, but this winter as well as both will likely be focal points for the United States Olympic Team come February.

It’s a great sign too that Matthews is ready for the season ahead, given he struggled last year with injuries and put up his lowest goal total in his career with only 33.

But whatever comes at either Keller or Matthews this season, they are going to have a lot to discuss when these two men meet; and who knows?

Maybe Matthews is trying to get in Keller’s ear to think about coming over to the blue and white.
