On yesterday’s edition of OilersNow Stauffer mentioned a third goaltender target the team is potentially looking at. While he didn’t directly reveal the name, it strongly hints at Sebastian Cossa.Bob, yesterday you hinted at another prospect goaltender other than Daws and DiPietro, who the Oilers could look at.
There’s a connection. That’s all I’m going to say. There’s a guy in an organization that hasn’t gained a lot of traction over the last few years, and they’ve got another really good goaltending prospect. That’s your hint.

The Detroit Red Wings are already set with their NHL tandem of Cam Talbot and John Gibson, and the team has another elite goaltending prospect emerging in Trey Augustine.
That’s left former first round draft pick Sebastian Cossa in a tough spot for playing time and a path to the NHL. Cossa is now 22 years old and coming off two very strong seasons in the AHL, posting a .912 save percentage over 81 games. At 6’6 tall, he’s a monster of a goaltender
Before being drafted by the Red Wings, Cossa played 3 seasons with the Edmonton Oil Kings, leading the team to a championship in 2022 – giving him the strong connection to Edmonton that Stauffer mentioned. Previously, Cossa was considered the best WHL prospect since Carey Price.
The Red Wings have a clear goalie surplus with Gibson, Talbot, Augustine, and Cossa in their system. It absolutely makes sense that Edmonton would be in pursuit of an elite young goaltender like Cossa in trade.
