MONTREAL — There’s always Montreal Canadiens news to be absorbed on a daily basis, but there are only so many hours in a day. On Sundays, we recap the most exciting and relevant NHL news stories that you may have missed throughout the week so that you can stay in the Canadiens loop.
Monday
Slovak forward Filip Mesar was voted as the 20th best Montreal Canadiens prospect by the fans, a ranking that reflects his rather difficult season in the AHL. The good news is that the 2022 first-round pick is overflowing with talent, which means it’s too early to lose hope that he’ll one day be able to ascend to the NHL. There’s no doubt that 3v3 summer shinny lacks the intensity found in NHL games, but it’s always fun to watch top prospect Ivan Demidov at work. As a reminder, it took Demidov a handful of shifts in the NHL to register an assist, followed quickly by his first NHL goal.

Prospect Quentin Miller is definitely taking the path less travelled. He spent two years in the QMJHL with the Rimouski Oceanic and Quebec Remparts before heading to the BCHL to play for the Chilliwack Chiefs. He’s now set to play in the NCAA, joining fellow Canadiens prospect Sam Harris in Denver.

With Jayden Struble’s extension on the books it’s time to take a look at his potential role with the Montreal Canadiens moving forward. He could form a good third pairing alongside Arber Xhekaj, but his versatility suggests Struble can bring more to the table. [Projecting Struble Defensive Pairings, Potential Canadiens Impact]
We’ve reached No.17 in the Habs prospect rankings, as voted on by Canadiens fans. Sean Farrell, a player who was at risk of fading into the background, took advantage of the opportunity presented to him by Laval Rocket head coach Pascal Vincent. [Canadiens Prospect Rankings – No.17 Sean Farrell]
Prospect Michael Hage was busy at the World Junior Championship Summer Showcase. He opened the scoring for Team Canada Red on Tuesday afternoon.

Thursday
He may not be the most popular Montreal Canadiens prospect, but there’s a good chance Vinzenz Rohrer is among the most underrated young players in the system. His time in Europe with the ZSC Lions has paid off, and not only because Rohrer won back-to-back championships. [Canadiens Prospect Rankings – No.16 Vinzenz Rohrer]
It feels like Ivan Demidov has been on the ice in Brossard as often as humanly possible recently, resulting in a heavy dose of summer practice highlights.

It’s sometimes easy to forget Lane Hutson is an elite player, especially since he acts like an emotional support golden retriever half the time.
Arber Xhekaj on his Habs teammate Lane Hutson:
“He said sorry when a guy took a penalty on him one time. I was like ‘that’s crazy, do not ever apologize to a single guy out there.” pic.twitter.com/h0rokJ7Zso

Few prospects bring more entertainment value to the table than Laval Rocket forward Jared Davidson. He loves big hits, fights, and score goals via one-timers, a throwback to the hockey stars of the 80s. Not only did he score 24 goals from the fourth line last season, he pushed his way toward the front of the prospect depth list. [Canadiens Prospect Rankings – Old School Jared Davidson]
On top of scoring goals during Team Canada vs. Team Finland’s Summer Showcase game, Montreal Canadiens prospects Aatos Koivu and Michael Hage mixed it up all game long, including a shoving match toward the end of the game. [Canadiens Prospects Mix It Up At Summer Showcase]
Before anyone worries about a possible chemistry issue between the two Habs prospects, it was clear that they were simply working hard, exactly what you want to see from young players who hope to one day ascend to the NHL.
Aatos Koivu on fellow Habs prospect Michael Hage:
“At the (Habs) development camp, we were roommates, we were really good friends…He got a good hit on me, kinda lit me up, so I got a little bit mad & started chirping him back…We’re good buddies & it’s nothing personal.” pic.twitter.com/L1slANawnA

Saturday
Three Habs players were among the 42 NHLers invited to Team Canada’s Orientation Camp, taking place in Calgary, on August 26. It’s an off-ice event, essentially a meet-and-greet for those hoping to crack Canada’s lineup ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics. Nick Suzuki, Samuel Montembeault, and newcomer Noah Dobson will represent the Habs at the camp. [Three Canadiens Players Invited to Team Canada Camp]
Intriguing Montreal Canadiens prospect Bogdan Konyushkov nabbed the 14th spot in our annual prospect rankings, as voted upon by Habs fans. The offensive-minded blueliner won’t arrive in North America for another couple of seasons, but once he does make it he should be close to NHL ready given his KHL experience. Aatos Koivu and Michael Hage continue to steal the show at the World Juniors Summer Showcase. Koivu scored his fifth goal of the tournament on Friday versus Team USA. [Canadiens Prospects Mix It Up At Summer Showcase]
