The Colorado Avalanche entered Game 7 against the Dallas Stars on Saturday night with a chance to snap a six-game losing streak in Game 7’s. That did not happen.

When all was said and done, the Avalanche blew a 2-0 lead, giving up four goals in the third period. Colorado’s season ended with a heartbreaking defeat.

Not only did the Avalanche lose the game, they saw one of their former players spearhead the loss.

Mikko Rantanen, a right wing for the Stars, put together a four-point performance including a hat trick. He had spent the first full nine years of his career in Colorado and was traded from the Carolina Hurricanes to Dallas earlier this year.

Following the loss to the Stars, the Avalanche made brutal history. They became the first team in Major League Baseball, the NBA, or the NHL to lose seven consecutive Game 7 matchups, as shared by OptaSTATS.

After a solid season that ended with a 49-29-4 record, Colorado will now head into the offseason with needs to address. The Avalanche are not far off from being a Stanley Cup contender, but there is work to be done to improve the roster.

“James Harden of teams,” one fan wrote.

Another commented, “This the kinda stat I expect to involve the Toronto Maple Leafs not the Colorado Avalanche lmfaoo.”

“Most embarrassing loss in history of NHL. Now will they Finally dump the mannequin coach Bednar? Please say it will happen!” another fan posted, calling for a coaching change.

There is nothing more disheartening than losing in a winner-take-all Game 7. Doing it seven straight times is a new historical mark Colorado unfortunately holds.
