Jimmy Vesey has carved out a solid NHL career for himself, but after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, he is set to depart the league to sign a big deal overseas.
Recently, there’s been some speculation over the future of former Hobey Baker Award winner Jimmy Vesey, and now, his next playing destination in hockey has officially been revealed.
According to reports, Vesey is officially heading overseas, as he is signing with Geneve-Servette of the Swiss League, officially bringing to an end a rather tumultuous NHL career.
This comes after a disappointing season between New York and Colorado where Vesey tallied 5 goals and 8 points in 43 games played, but at 32-years of age, it’s become clear that he’s not quite the player that he once was.
Despite coming into the NHL as a highly touted college free agent, tallying 35 points as a career high back in 2018/19 with the Rangers, he’s disappointed overall, with stints in Buffalo, Toronto, Vancouver, New Jersey and eventually Colorado, but with no chance of being a star, moving overseas may be the thing that revives his career in hockey.
With over 600 NHL games under his belt, Vesey brings plenty of experience and skill to the Swiss league, and while there’s always going to be an opportunity to return to the NHL, given how many young players continue to join the league year after year, the opportunities overseas can often be better for veterans like this.
Ultimately, Vesey’s career has been highly controversial and disappointing given the hype he entered the NHL with, and now he moves onto the next chapter in his hockey career, with Switzerland the next spot for the former college star.
