The 51-year-old Jankowski comes to Seattle after spending the 2024-25 season as associate director of amateur scouting for the NHL’s Utah Mammoth.
Jankowski joins Ricky Olczyk and Alexandra Mandrycky as assistant GMs under new general manager Jason Botterill, who was promoted from an assistant role to GM in April in place of Ron Francis, who was elevated to team president.
“We’re excited to bring someone of Ryan’s stature to our organization,” Botterill said in a press release. “Ryan has a wealth of experience, both in the NHL and internationally. His expertise in player evaluation and player development will be a big plus for our group.”

Jankowski served seven years in the New York Islanders front office, including 2006-10 as an assistant GM.
“I’m thrilled to join the Kraken as an assistant GM,” Jankowski said in the release. “After talking with Jason and the leadership team, I knew this would be a great fit. This team has tremendous potential and an exciting future which I’m happy to be a part of. I’m excited to get started in Seattle.”
Jankowski’s background is in scouting and player development. With the Islanders, Jankowski started as a western scout in 2002, spent the next three seasons as their director of European scouting, and then oversaw amateur scouting and player development while assistant GM.
He was an amateur scout for the Montreal Canadiens (2010-13) and director of amateur scouting for the Buffalo Sabres (2017-20). He also spent time with the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL from 1997 to 2003 when the Calgary native scouted his home province of Alberta.
