The potential trade involving Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby has sparked a lot of chatter this summer.

I know it, you know it, and it was refreshing to move on to another topic over the past few days.

Well, speaking of moving on, we can truly do that now.

Sidney Crosby will not be traded before the start of the season

Elliotte Friedman: Re Sidney Crosby: “He’s gonna start the year with the Penguins, I don’t think there’s any doubt about that; he’s definitely not getting traded this summer” – 32 Thoughts Podcast

The odds of seeing him start the 2025-26 season with the Penguins were already 85 or 90%, but now, they’re clearly at 99.99%.

At 37 years old, Sidney Crosby put up 91 points in 80 games during the 2024-2025 season, including 33 goals – and had recorded 94 and 93 points in the two previous seasons – so yes, he’s still an incredibly dominant player.

Also worth noting: Crosby will literally turn 38 in the next few days (on August 7).

This might come as a slight disappointment for Habs fans, especially given the many rumours linking him to his childhood team, the Montreal Canadiens.

But I guess it’s just a matter of time!
