New York forest rangers pulled off a daring rescue in Essex County last month after they were tasked with saving a teenager who collapsed on a trail.The New York Department of Environmental Conservation said they were notified of a 14-year-old from Camp Chingachgook who passed out while hiking near the Elk Pass area of Nippletop Mountain on July 29.Forest Rangers had a camp counselor move the teen to a shady spot until they could be flown to the top of the mountain to mount the rescue effort.Once there, two forest rangers carried the teen through a swamp, which at some points had waist-deep water and mud, until they could reach the waiting helicopter for evacuation.The teenager was then dropped off at a waiting ambulance at Marcy Field and brought to an area hospital.The rest of the campers were instructed to stay the night on the mountain and hike out in the morning to avoid any other issues. The group was safely able to return to their camp.
