Vancouver Canucks General Manager explains the exact reasons why the team decided to re-sign former winger Vitali Kravtsov after he spent two seasons in the KHL.

With all the disappointment this offseason with the Canucks not being able to sign any big ticket free-agents, nor make any big trades to upgrade their roster, early on Tuesday, the Vancouver Canucks made their first splash since acquiring Evander Kane in July.

General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the #Canucks have agreed to terms with F Vitali Kravtsov on a one-year, two-way contract.

Kravtsov clearly had the best season of his professional hockey career in Russia, scoring 27 goals and 31 assists for 58 points in just 66 games, putting him in the top 10 in goals and points for the entire KHL.

Mixed with his strong season and high ceiling, Canucks GM Patrik Allvin commented with some high praise on why it was so important for them to get a deal done with the ex-prospect.

«Vitali had a strong season in the KHL and was an impact player for his team,» said Allvin. «In his two seasons in Russia, he has worked hard on his game, and we look forward to seeing where Vitali is at when he comes to training camp in Penticton.»

for a former 9th-overall pick, his production in the NHL seems underwhelming, but it is not out of the ordinary for players to find their game later on, especially when given a bigger opportunity with another club or league.

Hopefully for Vancouver, he will bring over the same production he achieved in the KHL, and clearly Patrik Allvin is excited about what he brings to the table.
