Atlantic tropical activity is increasing this week. The WXII 12 First Warning Weather Team is monitoring several areas of interest in the Atlantic, including a spot a few hundred miles off of the North Carolina Coast. Southeast CoastAn area of disturbed weather off the coast of South Carolina is an area that we need to watch this week. Scattered storms have increased in coverage along a stalled frontal boundary and weak trough. An area of low pressure is expected to form there over the next few days in an environment that may be conducive to tropical development. The system is forecast to be a slow-mover, drifting westward towards shore and then turning northward later this week. Over time, it may become tropical, provided that it stays over the ocean. This fledgling storm system currently has a low likelihood of developing into a tropical depression this week, but it will need to be monitored for growth. Even if this storm system doesn’t become tropical, it may enhance an already unsettled weather pattern this week.Tropical Storm DexterDexter continues on a northeasterly heading through the North Atlantic away from the U.S. coast. The storm weakened over cooler waters Monday night, and it’s expected to transition to more of a post-tropical cyclone over the next few days as it loses its tropical characteristics. The storm may still fluctuate in strength this week, even after the transition. Dexter became a tropical storm last weekend after the parent low rapidly intensified. Tropical Storm Dexter is the fourth named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. Tropical Wave in the Eastern Tropical AtlanticA tropical wave has moved off the west coast of Africa and into the eastern Atlantic.
