New Jets forward Gustav Nyquist revealed that he hasn’t won the Stanley Cup in his career, and he has his sights set on it with Winnipeg for the upcoming season.

At 35, seasoned winger Gustav Nyquist has one thing on his mind: a Stanley Cup.

‘At this point in my career, I still feel like I’ve got a few good years left,’ Nyquist said in an interview with the Sun. ‘But I haven’t won it all yet – and that’s something that’s on your mind every year.’

The Swedish forward inked a two-year contract with the Winnipeg Jets this off-season, attracted by fruitful discussions with GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and recently appointed head coach Scott Arniel. Their firm belief in his game sealed the deal.

‘It’s a big reason I wanted to come here,’ he said of choosing Winnipeg. ‘Seeing what they’ve done over the last few years, and especially last season, it’s clear this is a really good team.’

‘They’ve been great to talk to – we had really good conversations about where I might fit and what they see in me,’ Nyquist said. ‘But at the end of the day, you’ve got to earn your role in camp. That’s how it should be.’

Gustav Nyquist, a veteran of 13 NHL seasons and 863 games, got as close as the 2019 Western Conference Final with the San Jose Sharks. That playoff run is still the deepest of his career, and an obvious motivator.

Early line projections place him on the ice with Cole Perfetti and fellow veteran Jonathan Toews, who inked a one-year contract with Winnipeg after sitting out the last two seasons.
