Charlie Murata is a 2009-born forward who was taken No. 8 overall in the OHL draft.
It’s been another roller coaster of a week for Michigan State hockey. The week kicked off with a bang, with the Spartans landing a commitment from Detroit Catholic Central’s Brooks Rogowski. Then, there was a downswing, with MSU losing the commitment of Brooks Cullen, who is likely headed to Minnesota. Now, the Spartans head back into the weekend with some good news after landing another elite commitment from 5-star forward Charlie Murata.
Murata, a 2009-born forward, is a 5-star in the PuckPreps rankings. He was also selected No. 8 overall by the Flint Firebirds in the OHL draft.
According to Nathaniel Bott, who first reported the news, Murata had 97 points in 76 games played for the Don Mills Flyers, and he also played at Canada’s U17 camp this summer. This is another major recruiting win for Michigan State, which has become a powerhouse in that department since Adam Nightingale first stepped onto campus.
