With training camp just around the corner, we are previewing each player on the LA Kings roster. Up next: Alex Laferriere

Alex Laferriere

Birthdate: October 28, 2001

Birthplace: Chatham, New Jersey

Height: 6’1

Weight: 205 lbs

Position: Right/Left wing

Shoots: Right

Draft: 3rd round, 83rd overall, 2020 NHL Entry Draft

2024-25 season

Alex Laferriere started his sophomore campaign on fire, scoring 13 goals in 33 games. His 13 goals surpassed his total from his rookie season (12), with an insane shooting percentage clip of 18.3%. Numbers like those mean eventually a player will come down to earth, and unfortunately for Laf, that happened. The 23-year-old forward had a hard time finding the back of the net in the final 44 games, scoring six goals, but did record 11 assists in that stretch.

Despite the goal-scoring drop-off, the Harvard product still had a solid overall season, recording 19 goals and 23 assists for 42 points in 77 games in the final year of his entry-level contract. He also added three assists in six playoff games.

2025-26 outlook

Laferierre will look to top his sophomore campaign after freshly signing a three-year deal to remain in LA. If he continues to improve every year, he’ll eventually cash in on his next deal, given the rising salary cap, and give the Kings valuable production on the second or third line if he does. As for the Kings, signing Laferriere solidifies their top nine heading into the season.

While I think there is a possibility that Jim Hiller can start the season with a line of Kevin Fiala, Quinton Byfield, and Warren Foegele, it’s also possible that Laferriere can start the season with Fiala and Byfield, given that those three played together on a line late into last season and in the playoffs. If not, he could play on a line with Phillip Danault and Trevor Moore. Either way, he’ll be in the top nine for LA.
