With training camp just around the corner, we are previewing each player on the LA Kings roster. Up next: Phillip Danault!
Phillip Danault
Birthdate: February 24, 1993
Birthplace: Victoriaville, Quebec
Height: 6’1
Weight: 201 lbs
Position: Center
Shoots: Left
Draft: 1st round, 26th overall, 2011 NHL Entry Draft
2024-25 season
Phillip Danault completed his fourth year with the Kings and tallied 43 points (8 G, 35 A) in 80 games. You might say those aren’t good numbers for a player who is a de facto 2C on the Kings, but the Pizza Man was still an important player. At 5v5, Danault led the team in assists (28) and primary assists (21), while finishing sixth in points (35), per MoneyPuck.com.

The fourth-year King was deployed on the power play and penalty kill, with the latter being where he was used most heavily. According to Natural Stat Trick, Danault finished fourth on the team in total minutes on the penalty kill, which was first among all Kings forwards.
He was alsp strong in the postseason, recording eight points (2 G, 6 A) in six games, and led all Kings forwards in minutes, once again, on the penalty kill in LA’s first-round series against the Edmonton Oilers.

2025-26 outlook
Danault will be back with the Kings for a fifth year. Time flies, doesn’t it? I don’t expect his role to change that much. He’ll still be an asset on the penalty kill and possibly see time on the second power-play unit, all while playing a shutdown role at 5v5.
