Jack Roslovic’s Future With the Vancouver Canucks Confirmed After Stunning Turn of Events

An NHL insider has given a big update on the Vancouver Canucks’ pursuit of unrestricted free agent forward Jack Roslovic, who they’ve been linked to for over a month.

After the Canucks struck out on July 1st, the team reevaluated their options and eventually, turned their attention towards turned their attention towards Jack Roslovic, formerly of the Carolina Hurricanes, however a month later, it doesn’t look like Patrik Allvin is very interested in bringing the 28-year-old aboard.

The cost to land Jack Roslovic wasn’t going to be cheap, with some reports suggesting he was seeking a $3 million salary on a multi-year deal, something the Vancouver Canucks could certainly afford after moving out some salary in mid-July through a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs involving Dakota Joshua.

According to Thomas Drance of The Athletic, one month after the club initially showed interest, the Vancouver Canucks have “cooled significantly” regarding the possibility of signing Jack Roslovic before training camp and believe they’ll have to go down the trade route to land a legit second line option.

“At this point, from what I can gather from senior club sources informed about the organization’s thinking on the matter, the Canucks have cooled significantly on the prospect of adding Roslovic as an unrestricted free agent at this point. Vancouver is still in the market to land a centre, but the trade market is viewed as a more likely and realistic route of addressing the club’s greatest remaining need.” Drance said.

The trade market has been very quiet for about a month now, but with some key restricted free agent centermen still unsigned – Mason McTavish (Anaheim) and Marco Rossi (Minnesota), perhaps Patrik Allvin could ring up their respective General Managers to see if they can swing a deal before camp opens in September.
