A former Vancouver Canucks defenseman is reportedly considering leaving North America for the 2025-26 campaign after parts of 14 seasons in the NHL and AHL.
So far this summer, we’ve seen a number of former Vancouver Canucks look to Europe for the next chapter of their respective careers, most notably Jimmy Vesey and Spencer Martin, who signed in Switzerland and Russia, respectively. Also leaving North America this summer was goaltender Collin Delia, as he agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Brynas IF in the Swedish Hockey League, one of the top leagues in all of Europe.
Following a new report on Monday, there’s a good chance that Collin Delia won’t be the only former Vancouver Canuck to leave North America for the Swedish Hockey League this summer.
Former Vancouver Canucks defenseman garnering interest from SHL clubs
In an article for Swedish media outlet HockeyNews.se, Mattias Persson shared that he’s hearing some SHL clubs have shown interest in former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Brad Hunt, who has nearly 300 games of experience in the National Hockey League.
“Most SHL clubs have filled their squads – but there are still some gaps to fill.
Now Hockeynews can reveal a very interesting name that has appeared on the SHL market – Brad Hunt.” Persson said.
Hunt, a native of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, has never played for a club outside of North America during his 14-year career thus far, but with not many opportunities remaining here in either the NHL or American Hockey League, a move to Europe makes a lot of sense.
The 36-year-old has suited up for seven different clubs during his time in the National Hockey League including the Edmonton Oilers, St. Louis Blues, Nashville Predators, Vegas Golden Knights, Minnesota Wild, Vancouver Canucks – who he signed a one-year deal with in the summer of 2021, along with the Colorado Avalanche.
In 288 career games in the National Hockey League, Hunt has registered 86 points (26 goals, 60 assists), 52 penalty minutes and is a minus-32.
While nothing is guaranteed just yet regarding a move to the Swedish Hockey League, given that the offseason is winding down, Hunt will need to make a decision pretty quickly on where he wants to play this coming season.
