The Colorado Avalanche are adding some proven depth to their forward group, signing Victor Olofsson to a one-year deal, according to a report from PuckPedia.

Olofsson inks a one-year deal to join the Avs and will provide the team with good scoring depth. The 5-foot-11 forward features a strong shot and is coming off a strong year with the Vegas Golden Knights, scoring 15 goals and tallying 29 points in 56 games, averaging about 15 minutes on the ice per game.

The former Buffalo Saber had a really rough 2023-24 campaign to end his time in western New York. The former seventh-round pick notched just 15 points in 51 games. But he was mostly good for the Sabres, where he even made the All-Rookie team in 2019.

The 30-year-old is also a good option for Colorado with a man advantage, scoring 56 power play goals over 257 games in Buffalo. He could fill an exact need that the Avs have had for a while: scoring depth.

Colorado is expected to be one of the NHL’s best teams yet again. Last year, Jared Bendar never found quite the right recipe for his bottom six, as the team used 49 different players throughout the season.

Olofsson will likely compete for and have a leg up for the third line job next to Jack Drury and Ross Colton. The returning Joel Kiviranta, who re-signed this summer, and the recently acquired Danil Gushchin should also get a shot at the role.

Victor Olofsson, signed with COL, is a veteran scoring winger. Spent literally his entire career as a perimeter one-timer merchant and then suddenly puts up unreal defensive numbers? Not sure I buy it but it’d be cool if that sticks around. pic.twitter.com/GYbdUylHkL
