DETROIT, Mich. (WILX) – The Detroit Red Wings officially announced Tuesday morning that the organization will retire Sergei Fedorov’s #91 jersey this upcoming NHL season.
The Red Wings will host a special pre-game jersey retirement ceremony on Monday, January 12, 2026 at Little Caesars Arena when the Red Wings host the Carolina Hurricanes.
Fedorov played 13 seasons with the Red Wings from 1990-2003, winning three Stanley Cup Championships. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015 and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Hall of Fame in 2016.
His #91 will become the ninth retired number in the Red Wings’ franchise history, joining Sid Abel (#12), Alex Delvecchio (#10), Gordie Howe (#9), Red Kelly (#4), Nicklas Lidstrom (#5), Ted Lindsay (#7), Terry Sawchuk (#1) and current General Manager Steve Yzerman (#19).
The Red Wings announced the decision in a video posted on their social media pages.
Detroit will start preseason play in late September before hosting the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, October 9th to open the regular season. Click here to view their full schedule.
