Czech forward Filip Chytil could reportedly be in line for a bigger opportunity in his first full season with the Vancouver Canucks organization starting this fall.In less than one month, the Vancouver Canucks will be gathering in Penticton, British Columbia for the start of training camp and it’s going to be a big year for the club as they look to avoid missing out on reaching the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the fifth time in the last six seasons. In order to ensure that doesn’t happen, the Canucks are going to need some of their big stars to bounce back including Elias Pettersson, Thatcher Demko, among others, but Adam Foote is also going to need guys like Filip Chytil, who is entering his first full year with the team, to step up, especially if he is thrusted into that second line center role. For Chytil, who is now back at full health following a concussion back in March, he’s worked really hard this summer to put himself in a good position heading into camp and if he’s able to prove to the team’s coaching staff that he’s capable of being their 2C, there’s also a chance that he could get an even bigger opportunity right out of the gate too.

Vancouver Canucks’ Filip Chytil could be in line for big role with team this season

When discussing what Vancouver’s special teams could look like heading into the new season, David Quadrelli of Canucks Army wondered if Filip Chytil could get an opportunity on the first power play unit.

Quadrelli says that Filip Chytil’s zone entries, which were at roughly an 83% success rate during his time with the club before his injury, are a big reason why the Kromeriz native would be a good fit on the first unit.”I was thinking of all the left-handed guys and then I was thinking back to the zone entry machine that Filip Chytil was, especially when he first got here and the clinic he put on on entering the zone because we hadn’t seen very much of controlled zone entries for while there last season. I think he would help with the power play zone entries. Again, we’ve seen Conor Garland get a look on PP1 for that purpose of entering the zone, but he doesn’t really do a ton else for me on the power play. So try him [Chytil] on the left wall there, see if he can do something there. But as you alluded to Jeff, the playmaking ability is something we still need to kind of see from Filip Chytil.” Quadrelli said. The 25-year-old is poised to excel in his first full season as a Vancouver Canuck and in a recent appearance on 100% Canucks with Ferraro and Shannon, Chytil shared that he has been working on his shot this summer, especially his one-timers, as he wants to be able to contribute more in the goal scoring department for his team this season, something fans should be very excited to hear.

“I love to score goals and I know I can score a lot more than I’m scoring now, or even what my best season was. So we’re working with my skill coach around the net a lot. Working on my shot. Working on one-timers. This is the thing that I’m working on the most. Of course we’re working on my edges – doing puck-handling. The thing I love the most is just shooting. I know there is so much room what to work on and so much room how to get better. Even the top players work on their shot all the time. I love to score goals and I need to score more.” Chytil said.

Hopefully Filip Chytil’s offseason training will translate well to game action this fall and he’ll be able to be a consistent offensive contributor for the Vancouver Canucks, which if that happens, will certainly help the team’s chances of having success in the regular season and potentially push for a playoff spot later in the year.
