The son of a former Vancouver Canucks captain has landed a massive opportunity on the international stage representing Canada beginning on Saturday.

The city of Vancouver has had a lot to cheer about this summer regarding their MLS side, Whitecaps FC, who sit third in the Western Conference with 14 wins, seven draws and six losses through 27 matches.

Now just a few weeks later, a former member of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC academy and the son of an ex-Vancouver Canucks captain is about to get his own opportunity to shine on the international stage.

In a press release on Monday morning, Canada Soccer announced their Under-18 squad for an upcoming camp, which will be held in Finland, beginning on Saturday and running through September 7th.

During this international window, Canada will be playing friendly matches against Finland on September 5th, along with Switzerland on September 7th and among those included in their squad is Valter Sedin, son of former Vancouver Canucks captain Henrik Sedin.

“Valter Sedin, son of Vancouver Canucks legend Henrik Sedin, has been selected to the Canadian men’s U-18 soccer roster for two friendly games taking place in early September, Canada Soccer announced Monday.” Sportsnet said.

Sedin, 18, joined the Vancouver Whitecaps FC academy in 2020 and then worked his way up to Whitecaps FC 2, their reserve team that play in MLS Next Pro.

In February, after five years as part of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC system, Valter Sedin decided to head overseas to Sweden, the homeland of his father and also uncle, Daniel Sedin, where he joined Hammarby IF’s Under-19 side, who are partly owned by Swedish footballing legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

With Sedin getting a look from Canada Soccer, it’s certainly going to be interesting to see who he ends up being capped with as a senior player on the international stage, given that he’s also eligible to represent Sweden.
