The well-known insider Frank Seravalli recently reported new developments regarding Lane Hutson‘s next contract.

It’s interesting to see a plugged-in journalist like Seravalli commit to such a concrete figure.

The Montreal Canadiens Are Said to Have Made a Brock Faber-Style Offer to Lane Hutson

Would Hutson actually be interested in signing a Brock Faber-style deal?

That’s the question, but one thing is clear: it would be a true home run for Kent Hughes and the Canadiens organization.

Frank Seravalli: Re Lane Hutson extension: “I don’t think that there’s been a ton of progress there, I think they had some initial talks and they are still looking at that; I think the ballpark is in that Brock Faber range [8.5m AAV]” – Bleacher Report

Indeed, if Kent Hughes manages to lock down Lane Hutson long-term at $8.5 million per year, it would be incredible.

Hutson, 21, is a 5-foot-9, 162-pound left-shot defenseman who was drafted by the Canadiens in the second round of the 2022 draft.

He recorded 66 points in 82 games last season, his rookie year, while holding a -2 rating.

Faber, 23, is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound right-shot defenseman, a second-round pick by the Los Angeles Kings in 2020.

He posted 29 points in 78 games last season, after recording 47 points in 82 games as a rookie, while establishing himself as one of the best defensive defensemen in the NHL.

Do you think this is a fair comparison for Lane Hutson’s contract?
