A Vancouver Canucks prospect is officially on the move and has found a new team after it was revealed he requested a trade in the OHL earlier this week.

Earlier this month, reports circulated that Vancouver Canucks prospect Riley Patterson was looking for a trade from the Ontario Hockey League’s Barrie Colts, just weeks before they were set to open up their training camp.Barrie Colts General Manager Marty Williamson confirmed the news on Monday, on Day 1 of the team’s training camp, saying that Patterson was looking for a fresh start and there are no hard feelings.”He wants a fresh start,” Colts GM Marty Williamson said to Barrie Today’s Peter Robinson, confirming that Patterson will not attend training camp. (No hard feelings), I still really like Riley.”

It didn’t take Williamson long to find a new home for Riley Patterson as just two days after the confirmation of his trade request, the Colts confirmed a move involving the Vancouver Canucks prospect.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Barrie Colts announced that they’ve traded Riley Patterson to the Niagara IceDogs in exchange for five draft picks – 2026 second round pick (which is the highest you can move in the OHL), 2027 third round pick, 2027 sixth round pick, 2029 third round pick and a 2029 fourth round pick.

Williamson commented on the trade shortly after it was made official, thanking Patterson for his time with the Barrie Colts and wishing him the best of luck moving forward.

“We thank Riley for his two years in Barrie, and we wish him all the best in the future. With the amount of picks we received today, we feel we can help this team now and in the future.” Williamson said.

Patterson, a native of Burlington, Ontario, registered 121 points (54 goals, 67 assists) in 132 games with the Barrie Colts, along with 15 points in 22 postseason contests.

Given that Colts and IceDogs are in the same division in the OHL, Patterson is set to face his former team quite a bit this coming season and will make his return to Barrie on Saturday, December 13th.
