Goofy got to meet Stanley.
That’s Goofy, as in Mickey’s sidekick and Stanley as in Cup, the NHL championship trophy. The meeting took place recently at Walt Disney World when Florida Panthers forward Evan Rodrigues brought the Stanley Cup to the theme park.
Rodrigues, along with his wife and children, spent the day at EPCOT. The family introduced Goofy to the Stanley Cup, and had some fun with the cup eating popcorn out of the cup and taking it for a ride on the monorail.
It’s tradition for members of the Stanley Cup-winning NHL team to get a day with the famed trophy. It’s been taken to the Theater of the Sea, a family-owned tourist attraction in Islamorada in the Florida Keys, popular bars in Fort Lauderdale and even in a jail cell.
While in Central Florida, Rodrigues also brought the Stanley Cup to Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World. The Cup was photographed at the luxury resort along the property’s five-acre water park, watching fireworks going off at Magic Kingdom and being filled with a celebratory beverage.
The Florida Panthers repeated as NHL champions in June beating the Edmonton Oilers in game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
