Vancouver Canucks’ Hunt for an Upgrade at Center Takes a Sudden Turn Before Training Camp

An insider has given an update recently on the Vancouver Canucks pursuit of some help down the middle with less than three weeks to go until training camp opens.
The Vancouver Canucks have had a difficult time trying to find a centerman this summer for a number of reasons whether it be the cost to acquire the player via trade or the lack of quality players still available on the free agent market. This has left the club with the possibility of starting the 2025-26 campaign with Filip Chytil as their second line centerman, something they’re reportedly comfortable with, but if an opportunity pops up that would allow them to acquire an upgrade at the position, there’s no question Patrik Allvin would consider it.
Insider gives update on Vancouver Canucks’ pursuit of center help ahead of training camp
The odds of Vancouver landing a centerman before training camp begins on September 18th seems quite unlikely and according to Patrick Johnston of The Province, NHL sources are saying that it’s very hard to make trades right now.
Johnston also confirmed a report last week that the Vancouver Canucks are no longer interested in signing Jack Roslovic and that none of the free agents still on the market are what the team is looking for.
“It’s seeming more and more likely, given what NHL sources are saying and what we can see with our own eyes: making trades is proving very, very hard. And of the players remaining in free agency, there is little appetite from the Canucks brass to sign anyone, including Jack Roslovic. Roslovic, who had a solid season with Carolina but who remains unsigned by anyone, is understood by Postmedia to not be on the Canucks’ radar, something that was also reported earlier this week by The Athletic.” Johnston said.
Because of this, Johnston says don’t hold your breath over the Vancouver Canucks being able to bring in a legit second line centerman over the next few weeks, but, you can never say never.
“Obviously, something could yet change. Another team could suddenly need a young player that the Canucks have been willing to part with, and in exchange have the kind of centre that the Canucks are after – but that also seems like asking for a miracle.
We’re probably best not holding your breath.” Johnston said.
For now, if the Vancouver Canucks have to begin the season with Filip Chytil in that 2C hole, then that’s fine, especially now that he’s back at 100 percent health, but if doesn’t work, Patrik Allvin will have wait and see who becomes available as the year goes on and may have to part with one of the team’s prospects to get a deal done.
