When Leon Draisaitl finally decides to hang up his skates (and that won’t be for many years to come still), he will go down as one of the greatest Oilers to play the game. And that’s saying a lot. With all his record-setting, Draisaitl has joined the ranks of legends throughout Oilers’ history, such as Wayne Gretzky, Connor McDavid, Paul Coffey, Glen Anderson, Grant Fuhr, and the list goes on and on.

Draisaitl became the first member of the Oilers to score 150 power play goals and continues to build a lead over Glenn Anderson and Ryan Smyth, both of whom scored 126 with Edmonton.

Draisaitl’s achievements set new personal records for him. They’ve also helped solidify the Oilers as perennial contenders – he shows no signs of slowing down.

He also put himself in elite company as just the 56th player to score 150 man-advantage markers. Among those 55, he ranks fifth in power play goals per game, trailing just Brett Hull (.21), Alex Ovechkin (.22), Mike Bossy (.24) and the great Mario Lemieux (.26).

Draisaitl might be in tough to reach the all-time record, which is currently held and growing by Ovechkin, who has scored a wild 316 power play goals in his career.

Leon also holds the season record for overtime goals (6), points (9), and is tied for single-game record for playoff goals (3) and points (4). And the big superstar is just getting started.

He is only 27-years old and is entering the prime of his career. He will no doubt continue his assault on the NHL and Oilers’ record books.

For good measure, Draisaitl has scored 50-plus goals 3 times, 20-plus 9 times, and 100-plus points 6 times, with 128 points being his most in 2022-23.
