Good morning, my name is Andrew Fantucchio. It’s Thursday, August 28, and here are the top stories, news items, and highlights surrounding the Boston Bruins and from across the NHL today.

Bruins News:

Bruins’ Biggest Concerns: An offseason highlighted by low-impact moves, the need for young players to step up, and Don Sweeney’s long-term vision. What is and isn’t concerning about the Boston Bruins as they prepare for another season?

National TV Schedule: The Bruins may not be heavy favorites to win the Stanley Cup this year, but will still heavily feature in prime time.  They’ll appear in 17 nationally televised games, tied for the most of any team in the league.

NHL News & Rumors:

McDavid’s Future in Edmonton Up in The Air: Connor McDavid became eligible to sign a contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers on July 1. He hasn’t yet. He says he’s still committed to “winning in Edmonton”, but for how much longer?

USA Hockey Has Golden Opportunity: The United States will roll out the most talented team it’s ever had at the 2026 Winter Olympics. It expects to win. Anything less than gold medal will be a disappointment.

Flames Captain Says ‘It’s Obvious’ Team Will Trade Defenseman: It’s only a matter of time until the Calgary Flames trade Rasmus Andersson. As far as their captain, Mikael Backlund, sees it, it’s obvious a deal is coming.

Hurricanes Sign Pair of PTOs: There hasn’t been a ton of talk of players signing professional tryout deals this summer, but expect some to come in the next few weeks. A pair of former Colorado Avalanche teammates are getting an opportunity with the Carolina Hurricanes.

More From National Hockey Now:

Florida: Whether you’re a scrappy sports writer or an NHL franchise, fan engagement is at a premium this time of year. For the Florida Panthers, that means getting in on the hype surrounding Taylor Swift’s engagement to Travis Kelce.

Pittsburgh: The Pittsburgh Penguins don’t have a lot going for them these days, but a few subtle changes this summer could lead to some major improvements this season.

New Jersey: Get ready to hear every player across the league say they’re in the best shape of their lives when training camp begins. It may actually be true for New Jersey Devils defenseman Simon Nemec.
