A big off-ice change made by Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood has led to some questions about his future with the organization beyond the 2025-26 season.
While the Vancouver Canucks might be focused on the 2025-26 campaign and trying to do whatever it takes to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the club has a few intriguing names that are eligible to become unrestricted free agents next summer, among them being forward Kiefer Sherwood.
General Manager Patrik Allvin said at the beginning of July that the club has begun preliminary discussions on a contract extension with Sherwood and his camp.
“In a recent appearance on Sportsnet 650, GM Patrik Allvin indicated that he has had preliminary discussions about a contract extension with Sherwood’s camp.” Pro Hockey Rumours said.
With contract talks potentially stalling after a career-year, Sherwood made a big change on Friday that he’s hoping will land him a better deal next summer, either with the Vancouver Canucks or one of the league’s 31 other clubs.

More likely than not, this agency change, as mentioned, has to do with his contract situation heading into the 2025-26 season and with Wasserman Hockey helping Conor Garland land a $1.05 million jump in pay annually, perhaps they can get the something similar for the NHL’s single season hits record holder.
