And then summer ended. We got into the Pittsburgh Penguins with the most to gain and most to lose this season. You can join the debate. Elsewhere in the Daily, ESPN debated the best draft picks a each draft slot, and deservedly, some Penguins factored into the best ever. NHL.com had some questions for the Washington Capitals, and The Athletic talked Oilers goalie trade targets, but waffled on Tristan Jarry.
Does anyone else feel entirely cheated that we had to dodge what seemed like feet of rain over the course of months until August finally brought a dose of May weather?

Ohhh did I ride angry Sunday. I got some bad company news compounded with a good old brewhaha over some professional issues, so I didn’t get out of my house until about 3 p.m.. Yeah, I had a lot of aggression to work out.
I made a five-hour trip in about four hours and didn’t realize how far I went until I stopped to take this picture on Rt. 6 just outside Port Allegany. Whoops. I didn’t really plan to go that far, but I got a good Beef on Weck at the A&W Westend Grill in Coudersport (but I’m pretty sure the bartender called it a beef on wick).

And I saw the funniest damned thing I’ve seen in a long time. There is a Welcome to Coudersport Conversation District sign–a lovely green wooden sign with gold letters–and below it reads, “Have respect — Don’t litter!”

On the property with the sign used to be a perfectly simple and tasteful double-wide modular home. Now, that same home with the sign has old lawn tractors, discarded kids’ yard toys, and junk strewn about and around the sign.
That just made me laugh out loud. The irony. I would have taken a picture, but someone might still live there (though I doubt it).
Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: There are more than a few players with a lot to gain and something to lose. We boiled down the list to the top three players with the most to gain and lose. Here you go–some actual Penguins discussion.
ESPN: I’ll put this story up top. Greg Wyshinski picked the top picks at each draft slot. I couldn’t believe how wonky some of the first-round picks were. I surely didn’t expect to see Ken Daneyko or Ray Whitney, but there you go.

Steelers Now: I think the Steelers are a playoff team, but it seems more and more of the talking heads and experts disagree about the Steelers’ chances.
Pittsburgh Baseball Now: I hate to admit it, but this column is correct. The Pittsburgh Pirates have figured out half of the equation. Now, they have to figure out the other part. It’s some very good Pirates analysis.
NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now
The Athletic ($): Are there are goalies still available on the NHL trade block? James Mirtle kicked tires on the goalies, downplayed any value for Jarry, but also hit the no-tax states issue, too.

NHL.com: The Penguins mirror to the south wants to build on their breakout and get deeper into the playoffs. Here are the biggest questions surrounding the Washington Capitals.
Expressen (Swedish): Calvin de Haan wants to play in the NHL this season, and he will not play in the AHL. He may not get his wish and might take a Swedish offer.
Philly Hockey Now: My boy Will liked our Penguins column and put the Flyers through the same filter. The three players with the most to gain or lose this Philadelphia Flyers season.
Happy Labor Day, yinz.
