David Lewandowski was selected by Edmonton 117th overall in the 4th-round of the 2025 NHL entry draft, and brings elite-level offensive skill to the Oilers’ system.
Given Edmonton’s success in recent years, they’ve had fewer high-end draft picks from which to develop their talent-pool, so making the right pick late in the draft is a very useful skill to have; the Oilers have been able to do just that with David Lewandowski.
Fourth-round pick brings offensive talent and elite-skills to Edmonton
David Lewandowski’s main asset is his playmaking ability, one reason why scout Spencer Pomoty ranks him the Oilers’ 14th-best prospect at only 18-years old.
Another quality the 6’1″ LW has, which most young players do not develop early-on, is his lethal backhand, a tool which he uses quite effectively when in-close to the net.
David also has the ability to create his own passing lanes, which in the NHL is critical, as defenders at that level won’t allow an easy path for advancing the puck.
Scout Spencer Pomoty believes Lewandowski’s playmaking is also elite, and is by far his greatest strength, though certainly not his only one. David’s positional play is quite mature for one so young.
In 2024-25, Lewandowski played in the WJC -18 and -20, where he scored 3G and 3A in 10 games played. The same year in the WHL, playing with the Saskatoon Blades, he scored 15G and 39 points in 52 games, and was a +21, a good indication of his strong positional play.
David Lewandowski has demonstrated elite offensive skill throughout his junior career in Germany, where he produced at higher that a point-per-game every year since the age of 15.
