Get ready, Blackhawks fans! Stay updated with the latest Chicago Blackhawks news and preseason excitement for the coming season.

Blackhawks fans, there’s hockey this month. It’s only preseason and a prospect showcase, but it’s hockey. The dog days of summer are finally ending.

On Tap Sports Net’s weekly Blackhawks news recap returns. Blackhawks On Tap will release every Monday morning to start your week off right (and hopefully, not depressing). This section is divided into five subsections: Happy Hour (featuring various hockey-related news), Tasting Flight (game recaps), Closing Time (a news recap), and Spittin’ Piglets (Rockford IceHogs news and updates).

Grab a cold one and crack um.

Blackhawks Happy Hour

5. Once Upon a Time in the West

What better way to kick off hockey than with an introduction to On Tap Sports Net’s newest member: The Blackhawks Cowboy. TBC will be covering the Blackhawks with articles, possibly YouTube content, and maybe even hopping on the mic for Four Feathers. You can find his work on his X account or his YouTube channel.

Glad to have another cowboy here @OnTapSportsNet / @FourFeathersPod.

4. Prospects On Parade

Interestingly, the Tom Kurvers’ Prospect Showcase is happening next week, and as of September 2, we are now getting the first dates. It will most likely be available to watch on YouTube or via the Blackhawks website. Nothing official from the front office yet.

Per @RussoHockey, the Blackhawks will play the Blues on Saturday, 9/13 (6 pm), and the Wild on Sunday, 9/14 (3 pm) at the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase.

3. Behind Enemy Lines

Recently, I’ve been doing deep dives on every NHL team. Currently, we’re halfway through the Pacific Division. The Central Division is complete, and you can find a consolidated list on my X account here. The Vancouver Canucks are up next.

2. Couch Coaching — Blackhawks Tactics

Another series I’m working on involves analyzing the Blackhawks’ tactics from last season and comparing them to what head coach Jeff Blashill might do. So far, we’ve covered the Blackhawks’ defensive zone coverage, breakouts, and neutral zone forecheck.

1. History 101

The Chicago Blackhawks are celebrating 100 years of hockey in Chicago this season. On Tap Sports Net has some great Blackhawks history content. Thus far, we’ve covered the founding of the Blackhawks in 1926, the first captain in franchise history, Dick Irvin, and the Blackhawks’ inaugural season.

Closing Time – News Recap

There isn’t a whole lot to discuss. It’s been a quiet offseason for everyone. The most recent Blackhawks-related news was Frank Nazar’s contract extension, a seven-year deal with a $6.59 million AAV. It’s the largest contract signed by a player with 56 NHL games. At first, it may seem like an overpay (because it is), but with a rising salary cap, this is actually a safe deal. Should Nazar be who we think he is, this is a steal. If Nazar is only a middle-six player, this isn’t hurting the salary cap.

One of the remaining pieces of business is Wyatt Kaiser’s contract. Some fans have been wondering when he will sign as training camp slowly nears. Evolving hockey has Kaiser projected to sign a three-year deal at $1.8 million. There’s nothing to be concerned about; Kaiser probably just needs to get in town to finish the deal.

What’s On Tap Next?

Other than waiting for the Tom Kurvers’ Prospect Showcase, there’s not a whole lot. Here at On Tap Sports Net, you can expect a tactical breakdown of neutral zone regroups and the rush, and a deep dive into the Vancouver Canucks and the Anaheim Ducks. Enjoy the rest of your week. We’ll be back on Monday.

Let’s Go Hawks.
