The Calgary Flames are bringing back a familiar face to join their coaching staff.
On Tuesday morning, the Flames announced that Dave Lowry will be rejoining the club for a third time.
Lowry spent four seasons playing for the team, including three (2000-02) as captain. He also spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the Flames previously, from the start of 2009-10 to the end of 2011-12.
He’ll be stepping into an assistant coach role on Ryan Huska’s staff, with Brad Larsen not returning because of family reasons. Already on the staff are assistant coaches Trent Cull, Cail MacLean, Jamie Pringle (video) and goaltenders coach Jason LaBarbera.
Lowry brings a wealth of experience to the group, having also worked as an assistant coach with the Seattle Kraken, Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, for whom he served as interim head coach in 2021-22.

Lowry will be joining a Flames team that is looking to build off a surprise season last year that saw them miss the playoffs by the narrowest of margins and is bringing most of the same core back while looking to integrate young talent like Zayne Parekh.
Working with younger players is an area where Lowry’s got a lot of experience. He was a coach with the Calgary Hitmen for four seasons starting in 2005 and helped guide the club to the best record in the WHL and a berth in the league’s championship in 2008-09. He also served as head coach of the Victoria Royals for five seasons, winning the Dunc McCallum Memorial Trophy as the WHL’s Coach of the Year in both 2013-14 and 2015-16.
