LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Robin Lehner failed to appear for a mandatory preseason medical exam, according to a report.
The team is reviewing its options for Lehner, who missed the exam at training camp to confirm his ineligibility, per the Daily Faceoff. He was required to undergo a medical checkup to remain on long-term injured reserve.
The veteran goaltender hasn’t appeared in a game since April 2022. He underwent hip surgery that summer and is entering the final year of a five-year, $25 million contract signed in 2020.
Lehner is still owed about $4.5 million in salary for the final year of his deal. Vegas is considering terminating his contract, according to the report, which would clear both his salary and the cap hit.
General manager Kelly McCrimmon addressed the situation during a press conference to open training camp Thursday, saying Lehner will not report to the team and remains “unfit to play.”
He called the circumstances “unique” and said the Golden Knights have been in contact with the NHL and Players’ Association.
“Collectively, we are assessing our next steps and when we have more to say, we will,” McCrimmon told reporters. “There’ll be nothing further until then.”
