FlyersFlyers mascot Gritty is greeted by a fan as the Xfinity Mobile Arena is officially unveiled in Philadelphia, PA, on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025.

During the reveal the Philadelphia Flyers Mascot Gritty and The Sixers’ Mascot Franklin had the honors to push the button which allowed for the banner to be dropped revealing the exterior signage.

Two players from each team were in attendance. For the Flyers, captain Sean Couturier and defenseman Travis Sanheim represented the orange and black. For the Sixers, V.J. Edgecombe and Jared McCain represented the basketball organization. The two teams will continue to share the arena.

After the reveal, Sanheim caught up with Philly Sports Network to discuss his offseason, the new names and faces around the team, and more.

“I went to [The 2025 IIHF World Championship], so I got back a little later and went back home mid-June and got to spend some time with family and friends, which is always good, but I got some training and skating in. I’m excited to get back and for what’s to come.”

Among the notable offseason acquisitions for the Flyers are forward Trevor Zegras and head coach Rick Tocchet. Sanheim expressed that he had, as of that very morning, met all of his new teammates and that he expressed

“I got to meet all of [the players] this morning,” Samheim said of meeting the new additions. I’ve known [Tocchet] for a little bit—I got to see him last week and talk to him—but I think everyone is just excited to continue to grow as a team. I think we’ve got to take steps to get better. I think all the additions and Toc are a part of it.”

Sanheim continued to discuss his new head coach and their time together at the annual Four Nations Face-Off.

“I didn’t get to know [Tochet] too well [at Four Nations]—he worked with the forwards, so we had little conversations. He was already at Canada camp last week. He was eager to get going and super excited. He was chatting with me and [Travis Konecny], asking us questions about the players and the organization, which is awesome. He knows there’s a lot of growth that needs to happen here, and he’s ready to get going like us players.”

During the ceremony, Sanheim was standing next to McCain. The defenseman shared some of his conversations with the Sixers players.

Flyers players Travis Sanheim and Sean Couturier chat with Sixers players Jared McCain and VJ Edgecombe before the unveiling of the new Xfinity Mobile Arena signage.

“I was able to chat with them for a little bit,” Sanheim said of Sixers players Jared McCain and VJ Edgecombe. “We were talking about how [the Flyers] play in the afternoon and [the Sixers] play in the evening, and how they can feel the temperature from the ice rink with the changeover. We were kind of joking about that. But it’s cool seeing that side of it and catching up with those guys. It’s cool being a part of this whole thing.”

The dates for the Flyers’ rookie camp, as well as training camp, will be announced shortly.
