Australia isn’t thought of as hockey country and the Goodall Cup isn’t the Stanley Cup. But members of the Melbourne Ice undoubtedly partied like rock stars after winning the recent Australian Ice Hockey League’s championship.
The Australia championship drew more attention this season because the Ice’s top player is 40-year-old former NHL player and Michigan native David Booth. He played 530 NHL games, including 28 with the Detroit Red Wings in 2017-18.
Booth was the most dominant performer in the Australian league this season, scoring 34 goals and totaling 64 points in 14 games. That’s an average of 4.57 shots. The Australian league plays a 28- game schedule

The Goodall Cup has history: the first recorded presentation of the Cup was in 1911. The Stanley Cup has been awarded since 1893.
Booth still boasts some of the offensive magic that allowed him to score 22, 31 and 23 goals in three seasons with the Florida Panthers from 2007-08 to 2010-11. He’s probably the best player in Australian hockey history.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It
You can’t make this up: The Red Wings are retiring Sergei Fedorov’s number in a game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Detroit prospect Brady Cleveland is joining his third college team in three years. He will play for Minnesota-Duluth in the upcoming season.
GM Steve Yzerman has traded for 17 first-round picks since taking over leadership of the Red Wings.
