Analyst Jeff Marek recently shared some cryptic knowledge about the future of defenseman Quinn Hughes with the Vancouver Canucks as he enters his contract year.
There was almost nothing that went right for the Vancouver Canucks last year, who were only a single season removed from winning the Pacific Division and advancing to Game 7 of the WCSF against the divisional foe Edmonton Oilers.
Their year was marked by numerous reports of an internal conflict between forwards Elias Pettersson and JT Miller, the latter of whom was traded to the New York Rangers.
Additionally, former Jack Adams Trophy-winning coach Rick Tocchet left the organization and took over the coaching duties of the Philadelphia Flyers where he once played during his own NHL career.
But one major pressing issue that remains for the Canucks is the contract status of captain and former Norris Trophy winner Quinn Hughes.

Could the Canucks Be Forced Into a Full Roster Reset?
If the Canucks were to lose Hughes to free agency, it would be nothing short of a massive blow and a signal to the fans that they truly don’t know what direction they’re taking.
It may have looked like the Canucks had the makings of a strong contender in the Western Conference, but if they were to trade Hughes or fail to re-sign him, all bets are off from that point.
