An NHL insider has provided an update on Friday regarding what Kiefer Sherwood‘s next contract could look like after changing his representation at the end of August. The 2024-25 campaign might have been a tough one for the Vancouver Canucks as a whole, but for Kiefer Sherwood, it was a year that he’ll never forget as he set new career-highs in goals and points, while setting the National Hockey League record for hits in a single season.
“Rich Evans and Judd Moldaver of Wasserman have added Keifer Sherwood as a client. An impending UFA. Will be interesting if things move along or if the year goes along.” Dhaliwal said.
Rick Dhaliwal gives important update regarding Kiefer Sherwood’s next contract after agent switch
On Friday morning, Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali was a guest on Halford & Brough on Sportsnet 650 where he discussed all things related to the Canucks heading into training camp, including Kiefer Sherwood’s decision to switching agents.
According to Dhaliwal, he believes that the agent change could lead to contract talks picking up after they slowed down during the summer under his old representatives.
He went on to add that if, and it’s a big if, Kiefer Sherwood is able to replicate the success he had during the 2024-25 campaign, he can see him landing a five or six year deal in the range of $5 million USD annually.
Sherwood, 30, finished last season with an impressive 40 points (19 goals, 21 assists), 35 penalty minutes and was a minus-one in 78 games, all while earning just $1.5 million USD.
There’s no question that Sherwood is in line for a sizable jump in pay, regardless of what he does this season, but it’s hard to envision the Vancouver Canucks wanting to pay him that much.
For Sherwood, it would be a smart decision on his part to wait until the opening of free agency next summer to decide on his next contract to see if he’s able to maximize the annual salary he can get, whether that’s in Vancouver or with one of the league’s 31 other clubs.
