With training camp just around the corner, we are previewing each player on the LA Kings roster. Up next: Aatu Jamsen!
Aatu Jamsen

2024-25 season
Aatu Jamsen made the transition to North American hockey at the age of 22. Jamsen, known for shot and finesse, scored seven goals and added four helpers for 11 points in 36 games. That’s on pace for 14 goals and eight assists for 22 points in a full 72-game AHL season. However, Jamsen missed time due to two separate injuries and was eased into the Reign lineup at times.

When in the lineup, you could see the finesse the former 7th-round pick possessed, but also the learning process of having to adjust to the smaller ice rink in North America compared to the wider ones in Europe. He didn’t play in the final three regular-season games and both playoff games after being on the receiving end of a hit in a game on April 12th against the San Jose Barracuda.

His highlight of the 2024-25 campaign was a Gordie Howe hat trick in a 5-4 shootout win over the Barracuda. He was the sparkplug in the Reign’s two-goal deficit in the third period of that game and achieved the Gordie Howe hat trick in the third period.

2025-26 outlook
Jamsen will enter the final season of his entry-level contract. He is destined for Ontario and will compete in this year’s Rookie Faceoff tournament again. While Jamsen is 6-foot-2 with skill, he will have to add muscle. He is currently listed at 175 pounds on the AHL and Reign websites, so it will be interesting to see if he has gained muscle over the summer.
That is the one area he will need to work on, as he has been knocked off the puck too easily or hasn’t won enough board battles. I expect him to play a bottom-six role again and possibly see time on the power play with his skill.
