2024-25 season

It was a tale of two seasons summed up into one for Martin Chromiak. Chromiak, drafted by the Kings in 2020, started the season with six points (4 G, 2 A) in the Reign’s first 10 games; it was almost an identical start to the previous season. As the season progressed, the 23-year-old forward hit a dry spell. From November 13th to January 21st, Chromiak scored once and couldn’t buy a goal.

It looked like a scoring drought that would never end, and it hampered his defensive performance at times. Despite his offensive struggles, Marco Sturm never gave up on him. In a mid-game lineup adjustment against the Tucson Roadrunners on March 12th, Sturm put Chromiak on a line with veterans Charles Hudon and Glenn Gawdin. From then on, the switch flipped.

16 games later, Chromiak had seven goals and eight assists for 15 points playing alongside the two veterans. A much more engaged Chromiak played a vital part in the Reign’s offense down the final stretch. He would score the only goal in the Reign’s two playoff games. When it was all said and done, he set career highs in goals (18), assists (21), and points (39) in his third AHL season.

2025-26 outlook

Chromiak re-signed a one-year deal in June after his entry-level contract finished. No longer waiver exempt, the Kings will need him to pass through waivers when they assign him to the Reign. Whether with the Kings or Reign, this could be Chromiak’s last chance to make an impression on the organization.

Consistency will play a huge part in that if the Kings feel that he still has a future in LA. I expect him to play a top-six role with power-play time for Ontario. If he does make the NHL in the future, a projection of 35-40 points makes the most sense for him.
