NHL veteran Kevin Lebanc, who played last year with the Columbus Blue Jackets, has been signed to a professional tryout agreement by the Carolina Hurricanes.

A veteran of 512 career NHL games has signed a professional tryout agreement to try and keep playing in the League.

Kevin Lebanc, who played last year with the Columbus Blue Jackets, will try and claim a new contract with the Carolina Hurricanes, who signed him to a PTO before the start of training camp later in the month.

What Kevin Labanc Could Offer Carolina’s Bottom-6 Forward Group

Lebanc played mostly a depth role with the Blue Jackets last year and didn’t provide much in terms of scoring with only 12 points (2G, 10A) in 34 games.

He signed with the Blue Jackets for 1 year after scoring 6 times in 4 preseason games with the New Jersey Devils after accepting an invitation to their training camp.

Lebanc would offer the experience of having played in over 500 career NHL games, and could potentially see his production increase with more talented teammates around him.

His previous high output was 56 points (17G, 39A) in 2018-19 in San Jose, a team that went to the WCF.

Why the Hurricanes See Value in a Low-Risk PTO Deal

Lebanc wouldn’t be expensive whatsoever, and if he does get offered a contract by the Hurricanes, it would likely not be anything over $1 million.

It’s a high-reward, low-risk move on their part to add depth scoring with experience, and it could pay off for them if Lebanc can rediscover the level of play that enabled him to score 56 points only 5 years ago.
