In a recent interview with reporters, Connor McDavid‘s comments regarding his future in Edmonton has fans convinced he’s thinking about leaving in free agency.
Reports over the past week or so have shown that Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers are likely not going to come to an agreement for a contract until later in the season, if they do so at all.
There could be a chance that he goes to free agency and he might end up getting one of the biggest deals of all time, and every team is going to be fighting tooth and nail to put out the best possible offer for him.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are currently the team who is getting the most attention regarding a potential McDavid signing, and there’s no doubt that the rumors have a bit more than just a bit of speculation attached to them.
Breaking Down What Connor McDavid Actually Said About ‘No Term’
For fans, they are hoping that McDavid holds out as long as possible, and his recent comments show that he isn’t exactly committed to a long-term deal; or one with any at all.
Speaking to reporters recently, McDavid explained that he was ready for whatever kind of deal comes his way as long as it’s best for him be it a three-year, eight-year or even a one-year pact:
All options are on the table including length of term: Short-term, long-term…no term. All options mean everything has potential so it could be a short-term one yeah.
It’s a stunning revelation that leads to the very possibility that McDavid could end up signing a one-year deal somewhere as a way to test the waters of a new destination; and Toronto could be the perfect place to do it.
How Fans Across the NHL Are Reacting to McDavid’s Surprising Comment
His comments have led to a lot of fans getting extremely anxious on the Edmonton side, and ones in Toronto frothing at the mouth:

It’s no surprise that the Maple Leafs fans are excited at the prospect of having not only Auston Matthews but also McDavid and creating an insane group of players that could push them way over the top.
For the Oilers faithful, they seem to be slowly giving up hope that McDavid will stay and with every week, month, and report that goes by that shows he’s still non-committal is going to drive that anxiety and hopelessness up.
Which might in turn lead to a lot of pressure from the Oilers fans to get an answer, and like we saw with Mitch Marner; enough tension can drive you outta town.
It could send him right into the arms of the blue and white, and changing the landscape of the NHL once again.
