Longtime national broadcast analyst Pierre McGuire will join the Pittsburgh Penguins’ pregame and postgame radio shows for half of the upcoming season’s games, it was announced Wednesday.
McGuire, after working in coaching and management in the NHL, has been a well-known analyst for several outlets over the years. He will work on 41 Penguins games this season, joining Paul Steigerwald and Brian Metzer for shows before and after games, as well as some episodes of Penguins Live Weekly.
This marks a return to the Penguins for McGuire, who was an assistant coach for the team when it won the 1992 Stanley Cup.
McGuire moved on from the Penguins to become the youngest head coach in the NHL with the Hartford Whalers in 1992-93.
As a broadcast analyst for outlets such as NBC and TSN, McGuire has developed a reputation for being upbeat and offering insight on players’ background and personalities.
