Quentin Musty is coming into the San Jose Sharks training camp in the best shape of his hockey career.
The 2023 26th overall pick dealt with trade speculation and injuries in 24-25, leading to a frustrating year with the Sudbury Wolves and eventually the San Jose Barracuda.
Musty will skate at the 2025 Golden State Rookie Face-Off this weekend, his third time at the event. The 20-year-old will have his work cut out for him to make the NHL roster this season, but it’ll start at the mini-tournament.
“Last year was kind of a tough year for me back in Sudbury with injuries and trade stuff. [I] didn’t really get a full season there,” Musty said. “[I’m] working on my conditioning a bit this summer and slimming down a bit, losing some body fat.”

While the San Jose Sharks prospect was never truly out of shape, there was a visible change to Musty’s physique while being interviewed. Musty said the Sharks did body fat testing today, and he’s at 9%.
“I was sitting at around 12 at Dev camp. So it’s good to see hard work pay off that way. [I’m] still getting stronger, just losing fat doesn’t mean you’re getting weaker,” Musty said. “I still weigh the same. Slimming body fat is helping with energy and quickness, all that stuff.”
The winger is listed at 6’2 and 200 pounds.
Musty said his focus this off-season has been on nutrition.

“It’s different in the summer. During the year, you can kind of eat whatever you want. You’re burning a lot of calories, so you need that food to get you through the season and other things like that,” Musty explained. “In the off-season, especially the back half of this off-season, paying close attention to what’s going in your body. Hitting your protein goals.”
Proof of Musty’s physical development will be seen over the weekend during the San Jose Sharks’ two exhibition games at the Rookie Face-Off. Following that will come an even harder test playing against established NHLers during training camp and the NHL preseason.
