An NHL insider has given an update on the availability of Vancouver Canucks trade target Mason McTavish, who remains unsigned one week before training camp opens.Throughout the summer, numerous names popped up as potential options and targets for Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin, including Mason McTavish who the club were linked to, but as Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman shared recently, the odds of a deal between Vancouver and Anaheim are quite slim.

During during an appearance on Donnie & Dhali earlier this week where he spoke about Vancouver’s search for center help, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman gave an update on one of their targets – Mason McTavish.
According to Friedman, the Anaheim Ducks don’t want to trade Mason McTavish, despite being in a stalemate in contract talks one week before training camp opens, adding that they want to sign him and get something done soon.
“I think right now, McTavish, I don’t think the Ducks want to trade him. I think they want to sign him. I don’t think they want to trade him.” Friedman said.
Friedman also opened up about the likelihood of the Vancouver Canucks being able to bring Mason McTavish to British Columbia and he said he’s not sure if Patrik Allvin has the assets needed to get a deal done or would be willing to part with certain pieces.
“Do they have a really top-end prospect or pick that someone’s willing to take, or they’re willing to move, or both, in a deal.” Friedman said.
At least to start the season, the Vancouver Canucks will have Filip Chytil in that second line center hole, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, especially now that he’s back at full health, however if an opportunity pops up between opening night and the NHL trade deadline to land a legit 2C, Patrik Allvin has to jump all over it.
