The Cup — well, maybe not exactly that Cup — is in the house.
More specifically, the latest Edmonton Oilers fan cave has a Stanley Cup-like replica in it, and apparently that might have to do until the Oilers bring the real one back to Edmonton again.
However, if you’re missing your Oilers fix, this newest fan cave might be the next best thing until NHL hockey starts up again later this year.
Located in the new west end neighbourhood of Rosemont, this fan cave from Coventry Homes brings a classy, high-end feel to Coventry’s take on the fan caves. Coventry, the official builder of the Edmonton Oilers, has done 10 different versions of the fan caves and notes that they’re quite popular with those eyeing a new home.
“We consistently have parties stop by our show home specifically looking to see the fan cave,” said Peter Battochio, Coventry’s area sales manager. “I have been at three different Coventry Homes show homes with fan caves, and this is always the case. People who are not expecting the fan cave are always pleasantly surprised, especially during the playoffs.”
The Rosemont show home, Coventry’s newer Kepler model — a two-storey, three-bedroom, 3½-bathroom house at 2,130 square feet — sees the finished basement transformed into an Oilers zone that takes watching the game at home to an entire new level.
“Oilers fans are always excited to see the next rendition of the Coventry Homes Oilers fan cave,” said Courtney Schriver-Richard, manager, corporate partnerships, OEG Sports & Entertainment. “The Oilers have such a loyal and passionate fan base, and these themed spaces spark even more excitement, conversation and pride across Oil Country.”
Zamboni Zone
You will indeed find a Zamboni here, though this one is far from full scale and is essentially an ice cooler with added cup holders. But this ice-cleaning machine replica is just a small part of what’s to come.
Done in the Oilers dark blue paint colour, the finished basement houses a lounge, full bar, multiple TVs for game watching, a game zone with an Oilers logo on the pool table, and perhaps the highlight, a poker room enclosed with smoked glass on one side.
In addition to an Oilers logo neon sign, there’s also the game winning song name — in neon, as well — of Play La Bamba adjacent to the fireplace. A large mural on one wall shows Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Kasperi Kapenen and others congratulating Zach Hyman after scoring a goal. The Nuge, as Nugent-Hopkins is known, is also featured in the stairwell leading to the fan cave, with a signed seat (part of it is attached to the wall) by him that notates he was the first overall pick in the 2011 NHL draft.
Plus, if you want your Oilers fan cave to have even more of a hockey flavour, there’s a Stanley Cup replica, the bathroom continues the Oilers design theme, and there’s even a working goal button to hit when the team scores — connected to goal lights that flash on.
“The team at Coventry Homes has done a great job working with each fan to build the perfect Oilers fan cave for them,” said Schriver-Richard. “Personally, I always thought it would be amazing to replicate the Oilers dressing room door in some way in a fan cave.”
The feedback the Oilers receive is overwhelmingly positive on these fan caves, added Schriver-Richard. “One thing that really stands out about the fan caves is that while they’re all Oilers-branded, each one features a unique underlying theme — and that innovation and creativity keeps the excitement alive year after year,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Kepler show home has an open-concept design connecting the kitchen, dining and great room. The main floor houses a den featuring custom arched built-in shelves. Upstairs, there is a front bonus room with vaulted ceilings, two more bedrooms as well as the primary suite.
Last West End Option
Rosemont, from developer NAC (formerly the MLC Group) is the last new community for Edmonton’s west end.
Situated near the Lewis Farms Recreation Centre (scheduled to open in 2028), its located near Whitemud Drive and 231 Street N.W. Servicing for Rosemont started in 2023, and the community, which will ultimately house some 800 residential lots, is selling its first three phases. It also features lots adjacent to the Michael Rawon Clark Natural Area, a protected wetland and forest.
Coventry, in addition to its Kepler model, is building townhomes with roughed in legal suites, laned single-family homes with detached garages and front-attached single-family homes. Townhomes start from $500,000, the laned homes from the mid-$400,000 range, and front-attached single-family homes start in the mid-$500,000 mark.
For those wanting to add the fan cave to their new Coventry home, prices start at $15,875 above and beyond the cost of finishing the basement.
