Good morning, folks. It’s been a long couple of months without hockey. That all ends this afternoon when the Vegas Golden Knights rookies square off against Utah Mammoth prospects. On Friday, legendary goaltender Marc-André Fleury came out of retirement… Kind of.

Elsewhere in the Daily Nuggets, the Toronto Maple Leafs prepare for a life without superstar winger Mitch Marner. Unsurprisingly, things look very, very bleak. Trade rumors swirl around Pittsburgh Penguins captain and all-time great Sidney Crosby. The Los Angeles Kings may lose their only good offseason addition, and Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid continues to hold out.

Golden Knights News

Come one, come all– the Golden Knights play hockey today. Well, kind of. Their prospects play the first rookie game at 3 p.m. MT– that’s 2 p.m. PST– against Utah Mammoth prospects. FOX Sports Las Vegas 98.9 FM /1340 AM will broadcast today and tomorrow’s Golden Knights’ games. Darren Millard and Justin Russo will call the action.

Unfortunately, the two top Golden Knights skating prospects won’t take the ice in Denver. Trevor Connelly, injured during the World Junior Summer Showcase, is week-to-week with a leg injury; Jakob Ihs-Wozniak is back overseas.

Former Golden Knights goaltender Marc-André Fleury is like glitter– he just keeps coming back. He’ll return to where his 21-year journey began and finish his career as a Pittsburgh Penguin. It’s just one preseason game… for now.

ICYMI: Jack Eichel, eligible for an extension back on July 1st, remains unsigned. However, there’s no reason for Golden Knights fans to hit the panic button just yet. Eichel is saying all the right things and doesn’t sound particularly interested in testing Free Agency.

NHL News, Rumors, & National Hockey Now

Sportsnet: Things aren’t looking too hot for the Toronto Maple Leafs post-Mitch Marner. With Max Domi and Matias Maccelli in the top six, their offense isn’t exactly formidable. Adding Nic Roy makes them, without a doubt, deeper down the middle. However, much like the 2024-25 Golden Knights, the Maple Leafs lack speed and skill on the wing. Only time will tell if the Leafs can overcome these concerns.

Edmonton Journal: Oilers fans assumed that Connor McDavid’s signing an extension on July 1st was a no-brainer. And yet, it’s September 13th, and he still remains unsigned. So, what gives? Is it time to panic?

Mayor’s Manor: Disaster struck for the Los Angeles Kings when longtime rival Corey Perry was wheelchaired off the ice on Friday after an apparent injury.

The Athletic ($): The Pittsburgh Penguins trudge towards another season of mediocrity. This year, they could very well enter the Gavin McKenna sweepstakes. If Sidney Crosby wants out, the Montreal Canadiens might make the most sense as a landing spot.

Colorado Hockey Now: Another suitor for Sidney Crosby lurks some 1,800 odd miles southwest in Denver. Crosby’s agent, Pat Brisson, stirred the pot, and the longtime Penguin didn’t exactly put those rumors to bed. Should he opt to be traded, his good friend Nathan MacKinnon would surely welcome him to the Avalanche with open arms.

Philly Hockey Now: For years, the Philadelphia Flyers have been biding their time and slowly rebuilding. Enough is enough– the “patient approach” can only go on for so long.
