NEW YORK — Jacob deGrom got the upper hand on his former team on Friday night at Citi Field.

In his long-awaited return after three years away, deGrom, now with the Rangers, allowed three earned runs over seven innings as the Mets were taken down 8-3 in the series opener.

Now, heading into the second game of the series at 4:10 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, the Mets will need to take down the Rangers to snap a seven-game losing streak.

The Mets’ advantage for the final NL Wild Card spot has been trimmed to a half-game by the Giants.

Brandon Sproat will be making his second career start on Saturday for the Mets after allowing three earned runs in six innings and suffering the loss against the Reds in his debut last Sunday.

Patrick Corbin will look to move the Rangers closer to a playoff spot. He enters the day with a 7-9 record, 4.36 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. The Rangers are two games back of the Mariners for the final AL playoffs spot.
