LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Vegas Golden Knights have announced the launch of the region’s newest hockey league for high school-aged players.

According to Tuesday’s announcement, the Vegas Golden Knights High School Hockey League (VGKHSHL) will be a co-ed league open to teenagers born between 2008 and 2011.

“It’s been a longtime goal of our organization to give high school athletes the opportunity to represent the areas where they live,” Darren Eliot, the team’s senior vice president of hockey programming and facility operations, said in a statement. “We are excited for this step and hope it evolves as hockey in the Valley continues to grow.”

There will be eight teams based on geography:

Centennial/North Las VegasSummerlinSummerlin SouthSpring Valley/DurangoEnterprise/AnthemParadise/Green ValleyNorth Henderson/Black MountainSoutheast Henderson/Foothills

Selection camps will be held in March at City National Arena in Summerlin and America First Center in Henderson. Each area will have a major and minor team based on ability.

Seasons will run from April to July with 15 games and five practices per team.

Teams won’t be officially affiliated with high schools, but each team will represent areas that feed into multiple school.
