The Detroit Red Wings’ mission this season is to light the lamp with greater frequency at the NHL and AHL levels. Both the Red Wings and Griffins need more goals in 2025-26.
If nothing else, Detroit’s prospects launched the organization season by creating momentum for completing that mission. Six different younger Red Wings scored in a 6-2 win against the Dallas Stars in Game 1 of their two-game rookie series in Frisco, Texas. The two teams play Game 2 tonight at 7 p.m. It will be streamed live on the Red Wings’ website.
Emmitt Finnie, Amadeus Lombardi, Alexandre Doucet, Shai Buium, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, Axel Sandin Pellikka all scored. MBN finished with a goal and two assists.
Getting on the scoreboard is important for Sandin Pellikka and MBN because each of them has an outside shot of earning a place on Detroit’s roster. It’s unlikely, but possible.
It wasn’t all good news for the Red Wings: Carter Bear and Jakub Rychlovsky couldn’t play because they are still bothered by injuries. The hope/expectation is both will be ready for training camp.-s
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Emmitt Finnie looks sharp in Game 1 of the Prospect Series against the Dallas Stars.
Anton Johansson is looking to improve pundits wrong about his Swedish team’s playoff potential. He scores a game-winner to beat Eddie Genborg’s team.
Detroit prospect Dmitri Buchelnikov hasn’t yet found the net for his CSKA team.
Red Wings Extra
Buchelnikov is not the only Red Wings’ prospect off to a slow start in terms of offensive production. Like Buchelnikov, Finnish prospect Jesse Kiiskinen has been kept off the scoresheet in his first three games of the 2025-26.
Jesse Kiiskinen
+2 10 Shots 19:30 TOI in a 4-1 win
•First line, First Power play unit
•Slow start in terms of production for him. Probably needs one to go just to get some momentum.
•The consistency game to game needs some work in terms of mentality imo. #LGRW
