NHL insider Elliotte Friedman just announced that the Philadelphia Flyers will trade pricey netminder Ivan Fedotov to division rival Columbus Blue Jackets.

According to Friedman, the Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets have struck a trade that will see netminder Ivan Fedotov move to Columbus. The return is yet to be announced.

Fedotov makes a concerning $3,250,000 per PuckPedia despite his lack of NHL experience. He is in the second year of a two-year deal that walks him directly to unrestricted free agency once he is 29 years old.

Charlie O’Connor, a Philadelphia Flyers beat writer, mentioned how he was surprised to see a team pick up Fedotov’s cap hit despite his performance.

O’Connor also mentioned how this move hints at the Flyers being confident with another netminder, Alexei Kolosov, and his ability to perform for the Flyers.

“that hints to me they’re feeling good about Kolosov’s willingness to play in the AHL this year. (He’s already here in Philly.) It would mean that the NHL duo is Ersson and Vladar, and the AHL duo would be Carson Bjarnason and Kolosov.”

We still await the official return, but given Fedotov’s performance in the NHL and his cap hit, it would not be shocking if the Flyers were the team adding assets to get rid of Fedotov.
